PRESIDENT: JIM JEWELL (JJ)
VICE PRESIDENT: JIM HELKIE

SECRETARY: BILL BELL
TREASURER: BARRY FEGARTY

Members admiring Joe's beautiful covering expertise, Mar. 10, 2003.

Members:
The Race Against Drugs program is finished. I would like to thank all those who gave their time to make this a great show. Between Windsor and Leamington we talked to 5000 grade five students. The response from students and teachers was to say the least overwhelming. We have a number of schools interested in booking the field trip, and at present five classes for the model-building project. It was also great that we had a visit from our zone director, Gerry Shaw and Chuck Smith, they had a chance to see first hand what this program is all about. Their comments led me to believe it sparked some interest from them. This is the greatest way to reach so many young children in a short period of time, after all they are our future flyers. Thank you to Bill Bell, Ken Connick, Ron Edwards, Joe Gibson, Ed Gresik, Len Laporte, Herb Thrun, Bob Myers, Bob Axford and Jeff Kuzniak.

April 14th Is our last meeting for this year. We are planning our field opening for mid May, the date will be confirmed at the meeting. See you there.

JJ.

MARCH. 10, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 19:35 hrs. by President Jim Jewell. The minutes of the Feb. 10/03 meeting were read. Ron Edwards commented that, the minutes printed in the newsletter are not always the same as the official minutes recorded by the secretary, due to the deletion of bank and other confidential business. It was recommended that in future the official minutes be read at meetings rather than accepting minutes as printed in the newsletter. A motion to accept the minutes as read was moved by Ed Gresik and seconded by Len Laporte.

Treasurer's Report:

No report due to Treasurer Barry's absence.

Old Business:

President Jim Jewell thanked the volunteers who were at the Cleary Cenrtre for the "RACE AGAINST DRUGS". He had Ron Edwards, Len Laporte, Jeff Kuzniak, Herb Thrun, Bill Bell, Joe Gibson, Ed Gresik and Jim Helkie stand to be recognized. The "LEAMINGTON RACE AGAINST DRUGS" will be March 24/25. There has been an overwhelming response from the schools for field trips (5) to date. The club will set/schedule dates for schools on Mondays or Wednesdays to facilitate proper club volunteer staffing for school field trips/events. The club will get a supply of small balsa plane kits from MAAC. Lots of schools are eager to build and fly planes. Gerry Shaw, MAAC Zone Director, will be approached to supply the planes. It was moved that the club supply any required planes beyond MAAC's contribution. Len Laporte seconded the motion. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:

There is no insurance risk for the club at the field or at the schools. Students and volunteers are fully covered. Motion to close the meeting was moved by Ed Gresik seconded by Ken Connick. Motion carried. Meeting closed at 20:00 hrs.

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:

Bill Bell, Jeff Kuzniak, Jim Jewell, Ron Edwards, Herb Thrun, John McIntosh, Dave Meloche, Ed Gresik, John Burnett , Jim Helkie, Joe Gibson, Greg Bushey, Len Laporte, Andrew Haggert, Ray Gould, Roger Gould, Joe Schooley, Ken Connick.

Secretary Bill Bell.

Following the close of the meeting, Joe Schooley presented a display of antique planes and motors. Many interesting old engines, some never used, and planes were shown to the club. Joe gave members a brief description and the history of each. What a wealth of history Joe has accumulated.

Ed Gresik unveiled his newly covered McCessna, giving us a rundown of construction and design details. It was typical Ed Gresik quality, "beautiful". It should be an excellent flyer.

Jim Helkie displayed a gorgeous new delta design that should really scream, literally. Between the power, speed and built in whistles it should make for some white knuckle, knee knocking flying.

SNOWBIRD ALERT

The SNOWBIRDS will be flying over the Leamington Harbour again this year on May 19th. During these festivities we have been invited to fly our float equipped aircraft at Seacliff beach. Anyone interested in flying with the usual list of suspects can notify President Jim or the executive. With any luck and favorable winds both the SNOWBIRDS and SRCF can occupy the same airspace and survive each other.

This month as the flying weather approaches an old man's thoughts turn to getting his planes in shape to fly. This includes making sure all batteries are fully charged and ready to go. We have acquired some material outlining everything you always wanted to know about battery care and maintenance. This material was going to appear in the newsletter on a continuing basis but as this is the last edition until the fall I will make some copies and have them available at this upcoming meeting for anyone who would like a copy.

By the time this newsletter is out, some of us will have been to the Toledo show and will have seen some amazing examples of craftsmanship on display. It is encouraging to a novice like me to realize that we have members in our club who have won competitions at Toledo and are held in high esteem by veterans in the hobby. It is also encouraging to realize that some of these builders are active in the "show and tell' after our meetings and we appreciate their involvement and interest.

A hospital patient was reminiscing with his wife and said, Ethel do you remember when I returned wounded from the war and you were there with me?

I remember.

And do you remember when I lost my first job and you were there?

I remember.

Do you remember my heart attack when you sat by my side?

I remember.

And now I'm laid up in this hospital and you're still here.

Yes dear.

Ethel - you're bad luck!!!

See you on April 14th Till then--- Keep em flying…
