NEW BUSINESS:

President Jim Jewell reported on the Cross-Country event that took place in September. The event was a great success. Jim thanked the following volunteers for their help during the Cross-Country: Norm Long for the use and operation of the sound system, Bill Bell and wife Carolyn for cooking all the food, Terry Momney and Shirley Gould for pictures and the Windsor and Chatham club presidents for their help, participation and prizes.

President Jim explained the outcome of the club's Trillium application. The club was awarded $5100.00 for the purchase of three complete trainer airplane setups (2 additional spare planes) and to supply balsa stick planes to the local schools.

Jim announced the new pilots who earned their wings this season: Darrell Tesky, Terry Momney, Ray Gould, Roger Gould, Alan Trojand, Chad Bluteau and Josh Momney.

The floor was then open for questions regarding club and field matters. The field status was raised: we have 2 years left on the lease with an option for another five years.

The meeting then turned to the elections. The results of the elections are as follows.

Barry Fegarty - Treasurer - (ran unopposed)
Jeff Kuzniak - Secretary - (ran unopposed)

The Safety Committee will review our safety program and rules as a major accident occurred in London this year. It is everyone's responsibility to manage a safe field. The committee will meet again before the beginning of next season.

President Jim is looking for volunteers for the school field trips to the field and also helping with the classroom building of balsa planes with the kids from Oct. to May.

The November meeting was held at Action Hobbies, as most of you know since most of the membership was there. The first experience with a new location was ok if not a little cramped for space. If someone brings a display to show the members then some other set up will have to be arranged, so enough room is available. The best part of the new location is that it costs us half of what we paid at Staples.

You will find in the December issue of MAAC magazine an article on the recent cross country event organized by Pres. Jim. I was glad to see recognition of the event from MAAC, however Jim's leadership effort was not given enough credit. So I just want to express, to Jim, our club's and indeed the three participating club's thanks for coming up with the idea and carrying it out to perfection.

These are the successful cross-country finalists at Chatham with perhaps a few also -rans.

Back Page Humour (or maybe not)

People over thirty should be dead. Here's why….

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, even those of us who were kids in the40's, 50's, 60's or even maybe even the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived.

Our baby cribs were covered with bright coloured lead-based paint.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets. (Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.)

As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts on airbags.

Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from a garden hose not a bottle.

HORRORS!

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode them down the hill, only to find out that we forgot the brakes.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.

No cell phones.

UNTHINKABLE!!!!!

We did not have play stations, ninetendo 64, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or internet chat rooms.

We had friends!!!

We went outside and found them. I'll include more revelations in a future Newsletter.

See you on Monday the 13th at Action Hobbies.

Ron E.
