PRESIDENT: JIM JEWELL (JJ)
VICE PRESIDENT: JIM HELKIE

SECRETARY: BILL BELL
TREASURER: BARRY FEGARTY

When asked for the President’s remarks, JJ had no comments for this month. Seeing opportunity starring me in the face and not wanting to push my luck, I accepted the challenge of putting out the newsletter without our master’s voice.

This month’s front page picture is of long time member Joe Schooley who came to the January meeting with a tail section which he has covered with Solartex. You can see what a fine job Joe has done and as he said, “With no heat shrinking.” Thanks for showing this covering material to the club Joe.

Once again this year we have the opportunity to participate in the RACE AGAINST DRUGS presentation sponsored by the local Police Associations and the OPP. This most worthy activity will be held again at the Cleary in Windsor and at the Sherk Complex in Leamington. The sponsors need our full support and as it turns out it can be a lot of fun.

This is Ed’s first McCessna Flying over the lake in front of his cottage in the north country. What a beauty. No wonder he loves flying float planes so much!

In picture #2 you can see details of the flap and aileron servo locations. Picture #3 shows that horner wing tips provide great stability

JANUARY 13 2003

The meeting was called to order at 19:30hrs. by President Jim Jewell. It was moved by Ed Gresik that the minutes of the Dec. 9/02 meeting be approved as printed in the Newsletter. The motion was seconded by John McIntosh. Motion carried.

Treasurers Report:

Treasurer Barry Fegarty reported on the financial information and it was accepted.

New Members:

Four (4) guests were introduced as prospective new members. Ray Gould, Roger Gould, Herb Thrun and Andrew Haggert. Later Ray and Andrew joined and Roger and Herb indicated their intention to join in February.

New Business:

The Ultralite at the field is up for sale so this is no longer an issue. We were assured that the ruts on the east side of the field will be leveled before flying season.

Ron Edwards was congratulated on his first efforts as newsletter editor. Rumour has it, several computers approached near meltdown and the members/owners heart failure, when they realized the size of the newsletter file. Jeff Kuzniak and Ron Edwards are going to put their heads together and run the Newsletter on the club website. The club bank balance will not be shown on the website.

MAAC insurance is in force for 2003.

Jim Jewell proposed a swap meet for the next meeting Feb. 10/03.

A motion to close the meeting was proposed by Bob Axford and seconded by Ed Gresik. Meeting was closed at 20:00 hrs.

The official opening of the meeting was preceded by a presentation by Ben Harrigan. The Town of Lakeshore is presently looking after the community building in Staples. They no longer want to operate the building and are considering selling it. If there is enough interest in the community they would prefer to see a group of interested citizens form an executive team to manage the building. Ben is presently looking for volunteers to man this committee. Ben’s number is 687-6903. At present there are quite a few groups including the Southern RC Flyers using the building. It was felt that it would be a shame to lose the use of the hall. Jim Jewell and Bill Bell volunteered to serve on this committee.

Members in attendance:

Bill Bell, Jeff Kuzniak, Jim Jewell, Ron Edwards, Robin Paulton, John McIntosh, Barry Fegarty, Bob Axford, Ed Gresik, Joe Schooley, Jim Helkie, Joe Gibson, Jason Gibson, Bob Myers, Kevin LeBoeuf, Martin Marshall, Len Laporte, Lou Deschamps, Jack Pepin, Ray Gould, Andrew Haggert. Guests- Herb Thrun and Roger Gould. Secretary Bill Bell

Uppermost in our thoughts this month is the untimely death of Club member Tom Wilson. Each of you probably knew Tom longer than I did, having first met Tom at last year’s Racing Against Drugs event. It was immediately evident to me that Tom had an intimate rapport with his friends, his colleagues and with life in general. We will all miss Tom, his wit, his fun and his enthusiasm for life. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mary, their children, family and friends.
